Answers To Tough Questions

I had a friend who asked me how to be a Christian. I told her all she had to do was to come up on Sunday and sit in the chair after the preacher preaches. Was I right?

No.

To become a member of a Baptist Church, a person must first REPENT their sins. Repentance and remission of sins must be done before a persons be admitted to the Church. It was preached throughout the New Testament. John the Baptist declared it in Matthew 3:2, the apostles preached it in Mark 6:12,  and Peter declared it on the day of Pentecost Acts 2:38.

Second, those who are admitted to the Church must believe in Jesus Christ. Not simply believe that he existed, but believe that he is the son of God and died for the remission of our sins. John 3:18 reminds us those who BELIEVE will have everlasting life, not those who just JOIN. Mark 16:16 says he that believeth and is Baptized shall be saved.

Thirdly, persons should be Baptized as a formal ceremonial indication of his acceptance of Christ. Baptism is a symbol both of Christ's death and resurrection as well as the death and resurrection of a new born again life. Matthew 28: 18-20 finds Jesus commanding us to Baptize the unsaved.

So, it is not enough just to come and sit in the chair, your friend repent, have faith in Jesus and be Baptized.
